「Memento Mori in NYC」11月5日・6日開催。納棺師・木村光希氏による納棺の儀をニューヨークで披露します。日本国内での事前取材にも対応します
YOMI International株式会社(本社:東京都江東区、代表取締役:村田ますみ)は、2026年11月5日(木)・6日(金)にニューヨーク・イーストビレッジのRESOBOXで開催する国際文化イベント「Memento Mori in NYC: The Art of Japanese Life and Death」について、報道関係者のみなさまからの取材受付を開始します。会期中の現地取材に加え、日本国内での渡航前取材、準備から会期までの同行取材にも対応します。
11月5日 10:00 オープニング「納棺の儀」:映画「おくりびと」で技術指導を務めた父の影響を受けた納棺師・木村光希氏が、日本の納棺の儀をニューヨークで披露します。書道家タイサン氏の書道パフォーマンスも同時に行います。
入棺体験(両日):来場者が日本の棺に入り、数分間これからの生き方と向き合います。
遺影撮影会(両日):「今を生きる自分」を残す撮影会です。日本の遺影の文化がニューヨークの人々にどう受け止められるかをご覧いただけます。
11月6日 10:00 座禅会/18:00 暗闇ワークショップ:NY Zen CenterのGiun氏による座禅会と、デスドゥーラViji Boloico氏による暗闇ワークショップです。
紙芝居パフォーマンス(両日 12:00〜12:40)、アート展示・販売、終活スナック「めめんともり」のNY版「Snack Memento Mori」も両日開いています。

村田ますみ(YOMI International株式会社 代表取締役、本イベント発起人):葬送の世界に20年。海洋散骨サービスの先駆けとして活動し、東京・森下で終活スナック「めめんともり」を運営。デスフェスには立ち上げから運営に関わっています。
市川望美氏・小野梨奈氏(デスフェス共同代表):生と死、これからの社会について市民が語り合う場「デスフェス」を共同で立ち上げました。
木村光希氏(納棺師):「おくりびとのお葬式」を率い、年間約3,500件の葬儀を手がけます。日本初の納棺師養成校「おくりびとアカデミー」を運営しています。
栗原正宗氏(株式会社共栄 代表取締役社長):共栄は1970年創業、広島県福山市の棺メーカーで、全国の葬儀社に棺を届けています。

TOKYO - October 2, 2026 - YOMI International is now accepting media requests for
Memento Mori in NYC: The Art of Japanese Life and Death, a two-day festival on Thursday, November 5, and Friday, November 6, 2026, at RESOBOX East Village in New York. Press are welcome on either day, and photo and video coverage of the encoffining ceremony is permitted. Interviews in Japan can be arranged through Oct. 22. There is no separate media preview.
What to see and film
Opening ceremony (Nov. 5, 10:00 a.m.): encoffiner Koki Kimura, whose father served as technical advisor on the Oscar-winning film "Departures," performs a live nokan encoffining ceremony, alongside a calligraphy performance by Taisan.
Coffin Experience (both days): visitors lie in a Japanese coffin for a few quiet minutes and reflect on the life they want to live.
Iei Portraits (both days): a memorial portrait session inspired by the Japanese iei tradition.
Zazen meditation (Nov. 6, 10:00 a.m.) with Giun of NY Zen Center, and a
Darkness workshop (Nov. 6, 6:00 p.m.) with death doula Viji Boloico.
Kamishibai storytelling (both days, 12:00-12:40 p.m.), an art exhibition and marketplace, and Snack Memento Mori, a New York edition of Tokyo's end-of-life "snack bar."
